Clio is always amused.

Here are some resources relating to lectures I have uploaded from my YouTube channel, as well as some links to other terrific history podcasts and websites that have interesting content.

This is a recording of a talk with myself and Christina Luo called “Practical Magic and Barbarous Medicine in the Middle Ages”

This recording also features Christina Luo and me, and it’s a talk we gave called “Magic and Medicine in the Middle Ages” — it’s different from the other video!

I guest co-hosted on the podcast “‘Tis But A Scratch: Fact & Fiction About the Middle Ages,” by Professor Richard Abels.  We discussed the Early Medieval Scandinavian themed film “The Northman,” which was the OG genesis of “Hamlet” by Shakespeare.  What we liked, what we didn’t, what was or was not historically accurate. Fun times! (Making the video, that is.  Not living in Early Medieval Scandinavia.)

Beowulf Grendel

This isn’t actually a drawing of Beowulf, but the horrific monster, Grendel, painted by Simon Dominic. I chose it to showcase an episode I co-hosted with Medieval historian Dr. Richard Abels on his podcast “‘Tis but a Scratch: Fact and Fiction about the Middle Ages.” It’s the first in a two-part series on this fantastic epic poem featuring some of the most horrifying and powerful monsters from Medieval history! New podcast out! This is the second of a two-part series about the Medieval epic poem _Beowulf_! This one is about how the poem has been translated (approximately the first 45 minutes) and modern renditions in literature and film (the rest). Image is of course Angelina Jolie as the monster Grendel’s mother. Here is a link: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/beowulf-2/id1607319000?i=1000639538817
