Goddess Seshat and a Historical Database?

This is Seshat, the Ancient Egyptian Goddess of wisdom and writing. It is also the name of an extremely ambitious historical database run by Peter Turchin, a professor of evolutionary biology and a mathematician at the University of Connecticut. He is trying to collect big data about human civilizations in order to predict human behavior through mathematical analysis. An example of the sort of hypotheses he has made with Seshat deals with the origin of religion and the genesis of “moralizing gods:” gods like those of Ancient Egypt, or the civilizations adopting the Abrahmic God — such deities care about the ethical behavior of their worshippers. In a recent paper using data from Seshat, Turchin and others argued that complex societies emerge before the “Big/Moralizing Gods” do, which contradicts earlier studies.
